ラスト

らすと
noun
last; final; the ending
time-generalmedia
1. the last one; the final part; the ending
From English 'last.' Used for the closing part of a film, song, game, or series, and attributively for the final item in a sequence.
ラスト一曲(いっきょく)です。
This is the last song.
I can't forget the ending of this film.
The scene where the protagonist leaves without saying anything was striking.

A loanword from English 'last,' but narrower in use: it names the final part of something, and does not mean 'previous' as English 'last week' does.

Compounds

  • ラストシーン: the final scene
  • ラストスパート: the final push, last spurt
  • ラストオーダー: last order (in a restaurant or bar)
  • ラスト(いち)(ぷん): the final minute

Common mistake: 'last week' is 先週(せんしゅう), not ラスト(しゅう). For 'the previous ~,' use (まえ) or (せん)~.
