1.
to like; to be fond of; to take to
To feel affection or liking for someone or something. In modern Japanese the plain affirmative is rare; the verb survives mainly in the passive 好かれる (to be liked) and the negative 好かない (to not care for).
Usage
Saying 私はあの人を好く sounds stiff and old-fashioned. Use the na-adjective 好き instead: あの人が好きだ.
Common forms
- 好かれる: to be liked (by far the most common form)
- 好かない: to not care for, to dislike
- 好き好んで: out of preference, willingly
Transitivity
Transitive, taking を: 人を好く. The passive marks the liker with に or から: 皆に好かれる.
