To love something so much that one cannot resist it, most often food, drink, or a hobby; literally 'to have no eyes' for anything else. The object is marked with に: 甘いものに目がない (to have a weakness for sweets).
Literally 'to have no eyes' for anything but the thing in question. Always Xに目がない.
Common patterns
- 甘いものに目がない: to have a sweet tooth
- お酒に目がない: to love drinking
- 〜に目がなくて: being unable to resist ~, (and so ...)
Watch out
- With a modifier the phrase means poor judgment instead: 人を見る目がない (to be a poor judge of people). Without a modifier it is always the fond sense.
