To allow someone or something to get away, either intentionally (releasing) or unintentionally (failing to catch).
鳥(とり)を逃(に)がしてしまった。
I accidentally let the bird escape.
犯人(はんにん)を逃(に)がしてしまった。
We let the criminal escape.
釣(つ)った魚(さかな)を逃(に)がした。
I let the fish I caught get away.
2. to miss (an opportunity)
To fail to take advantage of a chance or opportunity. Often used with チャンス or 機会(きかい).
このチャンスを逃(に)がすな。
Don't miss this chance.
Imperative form
せっかくの機会(きかい)を逃(に)がしてしまった。
I missed a great opportunity.
この安(やす)い値段(ねだん)で買(か)えるチャンスを逃(に)がしたくないから、今日中(きょうじゅう)に申(もう)し込(こ)もう。
I don't want to miss the chance to buy it at this low price, so let's apply today.

TRANSITIVITY: 他動詞(たどうし) (transitive). Pair: 逃(に)げる (intransitive, to escape). Pattern: Xを逃(に)がす (let X escape).
