Traditional Japanese footwear with a flat sole and a thong that goes between the big toe and second toe. Often worn with kimono.
CULTURAL NOTE: 草履 are traditional Japanese sandals typically worn with kimono or yukata. They differ from 下駄 (wooden clogs) in having a flat sole.
