To oversee and run a business or household. Now somewhat old-fashioned as a verb; in modern use this sense lives on mainly in the noun 取締役(とりしまりやく) (company director).

番頭(ばんとう)は店(みせ)で働(はたら)く者(もの)たちを取(と)り締(し)まる役目(やくめ)だった。

The head clerk's job was to supervise the people who worked in the shop.
