獣医(じゅうい)

獣医(じゅうい) is the everyday word for a vet, used both of the person and, loosely, of the practice you take an animal to. Formation: 獣(じゅう) 'beast' + 医(い) 'doctor'.

The official term is 獣医師(じゅういし) — that is what appears on the licence and in law, in the same way that 医師(いし) is the formal counterpart of the everyday word for a doctor. In conversation 獣医(じゅうい) is normal.
