JAPANESE CORPORATE HIERARCHY:
平社員 → 主任 → 係長 → 課長 → 部長
(Regular employee → Supervisor → Section chief → Manager → Department head)
NOTE:
係長 is typically the first official management position in traditional Japanese companies. The title comes from 係 (charge, duty) + 長 (chief, head).
