From English "home" (platform) + "door"
Also called 可動式ホーム柵 (movable platform barrier)
PURPOSE:
- Prevent falls onto tracks
- Prevent suicides
- Reduce train delays from accidents
- Keep platform climate-controlled (in some stations)
TYPES:
- Full-height type ({フルスクリーン}タイプ) - floor to ceiling
- Half-height type (腰高タイプ) - waist height
