To move something from one place to another. The transitive counterpart to 移る (to move/change).
箱(はこ)の中身(なかみ)を別(べつ)の箱(はこ)に移(うつ)した。
I moved the contents of the box to another box.
本社(ほんしゃ)を東京(とうきょう)に移(うつ)す。
We will move the headquarters to Tokyo.
2. to infect; to pass on (disease)
To transmit an illness or disease to another person.
風邪(かぜ)を人(ひと)に移(うつ)さないように気(き)をつける。
I'm careful not to pass my cold on to others.

移(うつ)す means to move or transfer something from one place or state to another. It also has the distinct meaning of passing on an illness.

移(うつ)している indicates the action of moving/transferring is in progress.
