KANJI:
奥 (interior/deep) + 行き (going). Literally "going to the back."
USAGE:
Primarily a spatial measurement term used in architecture, furniture, and interior design. Also used figuratively: 奥行きのある作品 (a work with depth/complexity) or 奥行きのある味 (a flavor with depth).
When shopping for furniture or appliances in Japan, the three standard dimensions are: 幅 (width), 高さ (height), and 奥行き (depth).
