The current Japanese era name, which began on May 1, 2019 with the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito. It follows the Heisei era.

The era name Reiwa was taken from the Man'yōshū, deriving from a Japanese classic.

令和(れいわ) is the current Japanese era name (元号(げんごう)), in use since May 1, 2019.

ORIGIN:
The name comes from the 万葉集(まんようしゅう) (Man'yōshū), Japan's oldest anthology of poetry. It is the first era name derived from a Japanese text rather than a Chinese classic.
