点在 describes things being scattered or dotted across a wide area at intervals — not clustered together. Compound of 点 (point, dot) + 在 (exist).
GRAMMAR:
Almost always used as 点在する or 点在している. The pattern ～に点在する means 'to be scattered across (a place).'
COMMON COLLOCATIONS:

REGISTER:
