LOCATION:
The 皇居(こうきょ) sits on approximately 115 hectares in the heart of Tokyo, surrounded by moats and stone walls from the original Edo Castle. The 皇居(こうきょ) 周回(しゅうかい)コース (Imperial Palace loop, approximately 5 km) is one of Tokyo's most popular jogging routes.

ACCESS:
The main palace grounds are generally closed to the public, but the 東御苑(ひがしぎょえん) (East Gardens) are open for free visits. The inner grounds open to the public twice a year: on the Emperor's birthday and January 2nd (一般(いっぱん)参賀(さんが)).
