A structured game or play activity, especially those played by children or in educational settings. More formal than 遊び and often implies organized or rule-based activities. Composed of 遊 (play) + 戯 (frolic).

The children are playing a game.

There is playtime every day at kindergarten.
遊戯室で子どもたちが楽しそうに遊んでいた。
The children were having fun playing in the playroom.
USAGE:
遊戯 is more formal and literary than 遊び. It is commonly used in educational and institutional contexts (kindergartens, childcare facilities). Also well known from the manga and anime title 遊☆戯☆王 (Yu-Gi-Oh!).
