A pitch thrown at high speed in baseball. The most basic and common type of pitch.
速球を投げた。
He threw a fastball.
彼の速球は150キロを超える。
His fastball exceeds 150 km/h.
バッターは速球に振り遅れて三振した。
The batter swung late on the fastball and struck out.
USAGE:
A baseball term. Japan measures pitch speed in kilometers per hour (キロ). A fastball over 150 km/h (~93 mph) is considered very fast. Opposite of 変化球 (breaking ball).
COMMON COLLOCATIONS:

- 速球派: power pitcher (fastball-oriented)
