The passive form of 影響(えいきょう)する, indicating that someone or something receives an influence or effect from an external cause. Used for both positive and negative influences.

天候(てんこう)に影響(えいきょう)される。

It is affected by the weather.

子供(こども)は周(まわ)りの環境(かんきょう)に大(おお)きく影響(えいきょう)される。

Children are greatly influenced by their surrounding environment.

彼(かれ)の作品(さくひん)はフランス印象派(いんしょうは)に強(つよ)く影響(えいきょう)されていると言(い)われている。

The passive form of 影響(えいきょう)する (to influence). While 影響(えいきょう)を受(う)ける is more common in formal writing, 影響(えいきょう)される is widely used in both spoken and written Japanese. The agent of influence is marked with に.
