Voiced form (rendaku) of ()き. Attaches to a number expressing how much is taken off a price.

COMMON COMPOUNDS:

  • (いっ)(わり)()き: 10% off
  • (はん)(がく)()き: half-price off (more often just 半額(はんがく))
  • (せん)(えん)()き: 1,000 yen off
  • 学割(がくわり)()き: student discount

USAGE:
For percentages, Japanese normally uses (わり) (= 10%): 三割引(さんわりびき) (30% off). For yen amounts, the figure plus (えん) attaches directly: {三百(さんびゃく)(えん)()き}. Often appears on store signs and coupons.
