The spoken form of ている with the い dropped: 食べてる (is eating), 知ってる (know), 疲れてる (is tired). It carries every meaning of ている, progressive, resulting state, or habit, and is the form most often heard in conversation.
Forms
- ている → てる: 見てる (is watching)
- でいる → でる: 読んでる (is reading), 住んでる (lives)
- てた: was ...ing (寝てた, I was asleep)
- てない: is not ...ing (聞いてない, I haven't heard)
- てて: te-form (待ってて, wait here a moment)
- てます: polite but still relaxed (知ってます)

Casual speech, text messages, manga, and dialogue in fiction. In careful speech and writing use the full form ている.
