USAGE:

Typically used at the start of a response: なるほど、そうですか
Shows the speaker has understood or been convinced
Often repeated while listening (like English "uh-huh" or "I see")

CAUTION:
Using なるほど toward superiors or in formal settings can sound condescending, as it implies you are evaluating and judging what the other person said. In business, おっしゃる}{通(とお)りです or 承知(しょうち)しました are safer responses.
