Honorific form of いる, used to show respect toward the subject.
先生(せんせい)はいらっしゃいますか。

いらっしゃる is an honorific (尊敬語(そんけいご)) verb that replaces three common verbs when speaking respectfully about someone:

TRANSITIVITY:

  • Type: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive)
  • No standard transitive pair
  • Pattern: いらっしゃる

THREE MEANINGS:

  • いる → いらっしゃる (to be, to exist)
  • 来(く)る → いらっしゃる (to come)
