台風(たいふう)(ちか)づいているので、帰宅(きたく)(はや)めることにした。

2. to hasten; to speed up
To make something happen faster or accelerate a process.
(あし)(はや)めて(えき)()かった。
I quickened my pace and headed to the station.
ストレスは老化(ろうか)(はや)める。
Stress hastens aging.
運動(うんどう)をすると心拍(しんぱく)(はや)まるが、カフェインも心拍(しんぱく)(はや)める。
Exercise makes your heart rate increase, and caffeine also speeds it up.

(はや)める is a transitive verb (他動詞(たどうし)). The intransitive pair is (はや)まる (to be brought forward, to quicken).
