How IT works

ブレーカー automatically "trips" (落(お)ちる) when:

• Too many appliances draw power simultaneously
• 過電流(かでんりゅう) - overcurrent detected
• 漏電(ろうでん) - electrical leak detected
• 短絡(たんらく)/ショート - short circuit occurs

Common expressions

• ブレーカーが落(お)ちる - breaker trips/goes off
• ブレーカーを上(あ)げる - to flip breaker back on
• ブレーカーを下(さ)げる - to turn breaker off
• ブレーカーを確認(かくにん)する - to check the breaker

Types in japanese homes

• 漏電(ろうでん)ブレーカー - ground fault breaker (main)
• 安全(あんぜん)ブレーカー - safety breaker (individual circuits)
• アンペアブレーカー - amperage breaker (contract capacity)

Troubleshooting

If ブレーカー keeps tripping:
