1.
arena, large venue
A large indoor venue used for concerts, sporting events, and other performances. Also refers specifically to the floor-level seating area closest to the stage at a concert.
Usage
In Japanese concert terminology, アリーナ has two meanings: the venue itself (an arena), and the floor-level area in front of the stage (アリーナ席). Getting アリーナ席 is considered a lucky draw because of the proximity to the performers.
Concert venue hierarchy
Japanese concerts are categorized by venue size:
- ライブハウス: small live house (hundreds)
- ホール: concert hall (thousands)
- アリーナ: arena (5,000-20,000)
- ドーム: dome stadium (30,000+)
