2. piece, component

An individual part or unit of something, such as a puzzle piece or a piece in a game.

この情報(じょうほう)が最後(さいご)のピースだ。すべてが繋(つな)がった。

Usage

Sense 1 is most commonly used in ピースサイン or simply ピース (the V-sign gesture). In Japan, holding up two fingers in photos is ubiquitous and is called ピース.

Sense 2 is used for individual components, especially puzzle pieces. Also used as a counter-like suffix for sliced items (ケーキを二(に)ピース = two pieces/slices of cake).
