欲求(よっきゅう) is commonly used in psychology and formal analysis of human behavior. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is known as マズローの欲求(よっきゅう)階層(かいそう)説(せつ) in Japanese. The term 欲求不満(よっきゅうふまん) (frustration, unfulfilled desire) is a well-known compound.
