USAGE NOTES:

(たか)め is formed from the adjective (たか)い + the suffix め, which softens the degree to mean "somewhat" or "on the ... side." This め pattern is productive in Japanese:

  • (ひく)め (on the low side)
  • (おお)きめ (on the large side)
  • (すく)なめ (on the fewer side)
  • (はや)め (on the early side)

COMMON COLLOCATIONS:

  • 値段(ねだん)(たか)め (price is on the high side)
  • 温度(おんど)(たか)めに設定(せってい)する (set the temperature a bit high)
  • 血圧(けつあつ)(たか)め (blood pressure is a bit high)

Can be used as a na-adjective ((たか)めな値段(ねだん)) or with に as an adverb ((たか)めに設定(せってい)する).
