Originally a military term — 陣中(じんちゅう) means "in camp" and 見舞(みま)い means "a visit (to comfort or encourage)." In modern usage, it most commonly refers to gifts or visits to election campaign offices, but also applies to any group working intensely on a project or event. In election contexts, 陣中見舞(じんちゅうみま)い can include monetary gifts, food, or supplies. Note that political donations disguised as 陣中見舞(じんちゅうみま)い are subject to legal restrictions under Japanese election law.
