1.
seitai; chiropractic-style body adjustment
A Japanese manual therapy that aims to correct the alignment of the spine, joints, and pelvis through hands-on manipulation. Practiced in private studios called 整体院; not a formally licensed profession in Japan, unlike massage or judo therapy.
Compound of 整 ("to arrange, align") + 体 ("body"). Note that 整体 is homophonous with 声帯 (vocal cords) and 生態 (ecology) — context disambiguates.
Common collocations
- 整体に通う: to go to a seitai clinic regularly
- 整体を受ける: to get a seitai treatment
- 整体師: seitai practitioner
- 整体院: seitai clinic
- 骨盤矯正整体: pelvic-alignment seitai
