A group acting together with a single purpose. Almost always appears in the fixed pattern 一丸(いちがん)となる ("to become as one") or 一丸(いちがん)となって ("acting as one").
チームは一丸(いちがん)となった。
The team came together as one.
全社員(ぜんしゃいん)が一丸(いちがん)となって目標(もくひょう)に取(と)り組(く)んだ。
All the employees worked toward the goal as one.
被災地(ひさいち)復興(ふっこう)のため、地域住民(ちいきじゅうみん)と自治体(じちたい)が一丸(いちがん)となって活動(かつどう)を続(つづ)けている。
To rebuild the disaster-stricken area, local residents and the municipal government are continuing their efforts as one.

Composed of 一(いち) (one) + 丸(がん) (round mass, ball). Literally "one lump" — a group fused into a single unit.

Fixed patterns

  • 〜が一丸(いちがん)となる: ~ unite as one

一丸(いちがん) is essentially bound to the 〜となる construction; it does not freely combine with other verbs.
