A pungent yellow mustard paste made from ground mustard seeds, used as a condiment with natto, oden, tonkatsu, and other Japanese dishes. Sharper and hotter than Western mustards.
納豆(なっとう)にからしを()れる。

Written in kanji as 芥子(からし) or 辛子(からし), but kana is most common on packaging and menus. Comes in tubes or small packets and is a standard accompaniment in Japanese cuisine.
