A cylindrical sack woven from rice straw, traditionally used to hold and transport rice, charcoal, or potatoes. Also serves as a counter for such bagged goods (一俵, 二俵).
米を俵に詰める。

Farmers of old packed their harvested rice into straw bales and stored them in the storehouse.
A traditional agricultural container; the woven straw ring bordering a sumo ring (土俵) is also made of these bales.
