あんなに

Refers to a degree or extent of something distant from both speaker and listener. Often conveys surprise, frustration, or emphasis.

KO-SO-A-DO SERIES:

• こんなに: this much (near speaker)
• そんなに: that much (near listener)
• あんなに: that much (far from both, or past events)
• どんなに: how much (question/exclamation)

USAGE:

• Very often used with past tense to refer back to something: あんなに頑張(がんば)ったのに (even though I tried so hard)
• Frequently paired with のに to express regret or frustration
• Can modify adjectives, verbs, or entire clauses

COMMON PATTERNS:

• あんなに〜のに: despite doing/being ~ so much
• あんなに〜とは: I didn't expect ~ to that extent
