one year difference (in age)
Used in casual speech to indicate age difference.
彼女は一個上だ。
She's one year older.
一個下の後輩がいる。
I have a junior who's one year younger.
一個違いなので気が合う。
We get along because we're only one year apart.
一個 is a very common counter for objects.
SENSE 1 - COUNTING OBJECTS:
- 卵一個: one egg
- 一個ずつ: one at a time
- 一個単位: per piece
SENSE 2 - AGE DIFFERENCE (CASUAL):
- 一個上: one year older
- 一個下: one year younger
- 二個上: two years older
COUNTING:
- 一個、二個、三個...
- 個 is one of the most versatile counters in Japanese
