ETYMOLOGY:
From French pâtissier. The word became widely known in Japan through TV dramas and cooking shows.

GENDER:
In French, the feminine form is pâtissière, but in Japanese パティシエ is used regardless of gender. The French feminine form パティシエール is sometimes seen but not standard.

CULTURAL NOTE:
