Usage
霊場 is composed of 霊 (spirit, sacred) and 場 (place). It is associated with both Buddhism and Shinto.
The most famous set of 霊場 in Japan is the 四国八十八か所霊場 (88 Sacred Sites of Shikoku), a pilgrimage route associated with the monk 空海 (弘法大師). Pilgrims who visit all 88 temples are called 遍路.
