Shikoku
The smallest of Japan's four main islands, located south of Honshu across the Seto Inland Sea. Comprises the four prefectures of Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, and Kochi.
四国には四つの県がある。

Shikoku faces Honshu across the Seto Inland Sea and can be reached by bridge or ferry.
The name literally means "four countries/provinces" (四 = four, 国 = country/province), referring to the four historical provinces: 阿波 (Tokushima), 讃岐 (Kagawa), 伊予 (Ehime), and 土佐 (Kochi).
CULTURAL NOTE:
四国 is famous for the 八十八ヶ所巡り (88 Temple Pilgrimage), a 1,200-kilometer walking route visiting 88 Buddhist temples associated with the monk 空海 (弘法大師). This pilgrimage attracts thousands of walkers (遍路) each year.
