To use reasoning or argument to bring someone around to a particular viewpoint or course of action.
彼を説得した。
I persuaded him.
親を説得するのに苦労した。

To convince someone through reasoning, explanation, or repeated appeal. The person being persuaded is marked with を. Unlike 命令する (to order), 説得する implies patient reasoning rather than authority.
