An official decision not to grant permission for something applied for — a visa, a building permit, a licence. The formal counterpart of 許可(きょか).
申請(しんせい)不許可(ふきょか)なった
The application was denied.
We requested the reason for the denial in writing.
Even if you are denied once, the application may go through if you put the paperwork in order and reapply.

The negative prefix () plus 許可(きょか) (permission). Appears mainly in administrative and legal writing; in speech people say 許可(きょか)()りなかった.
