1.
wild boar hot pot; boar meat simmered in a pot
A winter 鍋 dish of thinly sliced wild boar meat simmered with vegetables in a miso or soy-based broth. A regional speciality of mountain areas, especially 丹波 in Hyogo Prefecture.
Named for the way the sliced boar meat is arranged on the plate like the petals of a 牡丹 (peony). Part of an old set of flower names for game meat, used when eating meat was officially discouraged.
