1. to disappear, to vanish

To cease to be visible or to exist; to vanish from sight.

彼(かれ)は人混(ひとご)みの中(なか)に消(き)えた。

He disappeared into the crowd.

雪(ゆき)がだんだん消(き)えていく。

The snow is gradually melting away.

猫(ねこ)が急(きゅう)に消(き)えた。

The cat suddenly disappeared.

2. to go out, to be extinguished

For a light, fire, or similar to stop burning or shining.

The light is off.
