TRANSITIVITY: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive). No pair verb. Pattern: X(すわ)る (sit on/in X).

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. (すわ)っている = 'is sitting' (not 'is in the process of sitting down').

COMMON PATTERNS:

Opposite: () (to stand). Japanese sitting styles include 正座(せいざ) (on heels) and あぐら (cross-legged).
