A piece of furniture for sitting, typically with a back and four legs. Can refer to any type of chair.

椅子 is the general word for chair, often written in hiragana as いす.
COMMON EXPRESSIONS:
- 椅子に座る: to sit on a chair
- 椅子から立つ: to stand up from a chair
- 椅子を引く: to pull out a chair
- 椅子を並べる: to line up chairs
COUNTER:
脚 for chairs (because they have legs). Also つ or 個 in casual speech.
