To place things in a row or arrange them in an orderly manner. This is the transitive verb - you line something up.
Please arrange the books on the shelf.
椅子(いす)きれいに(なら)べた。
I lined up the chairs neatly.
I told the children to arrange them in order from largest to smallest.
2. to display, to set out
To arrange items for display, such as merchandise in a store.
(さら)テーブル(なら)べましょう。
Let's set out the plates on the table.
I displayed the new products in front of the store.
At New Year's, we set out lots of dishes on the table.
