1. to stand, to stand up
To rise to an upright position on one's feet. The opposite of 座(すわ)る (to sit).
立(た)ってください。
Please stand up.
ずっと立(た)っています。

電車(でんしゃ)の中(なか)で立(た)っていました。疲(つか)れました。
I was standing on the train. I got tired.

2. to be built, to be located
Can describe buildings or structures being in a location.
あそこに木(き)が立(た)っている。
A tree stands over there.
駅(えき)の前(まえ)にビルが立(た)っています。
A building stands in front of the station.
山(やま)の上(うえ)に家(いえ)が立(た)っています。
A house stands on top of the mountain.
ここに新(あたら)しい店(みせ)が立(た)ちました。きれいです。

TRANSITIVITY: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive). No pair verb. Pattern: Xが立(た)つ (X stands).

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. 立(た)っている = 'is standing' (in standing position).
