Usage
Describes an urge to act that the speaker is holding back. There is always something they want to do and are not yet doing — that gap is the whole meaning of the word.
Forward-looking and usually positive: the anticipation is welcome even when the waiting is not. It describes the person's own inner state, so it is used freely of oneself and only inferentially of others.
Common patterns
- 〜したくてうずうずする (to be itching to do ~) — by far the most common frame
- 待ちきれなくてうずうずする (to be unable to wait)
- 手がうずうずする (one's hands are itching — eager to get to work, or to fight)
- 血がうずうずする (one's blood is stirring)
