2. how (much), no matter how
Used with ても/とも to express 'no matter how' or to emphasize degree.
如何(いか)に努力(どりょく)しても無理(むり)だった。
No matter how hard I tried, it was impossible.
如何(いか)に難(むずか)しくても諦(あきら)めない。
No matter how difficult it is, I won't give up.
如何(いか)に彼(かれ)が天才(てんさい)であっても、一人(ひとり)では限界(げんかい)がある。
No matter how much of a genius he is, there are limits to what one person can do.

如何(いか)に is a formal adverb with two main uses: asking "how" or "in what way," and expressing "no matter how" with ても/とも.

Writing

Usually written in hiragana as いかに. The kanji 如何(いか)に is seen in formal writing.
