In otaku culture, refers to the world of anime, manga, and games, as opposed to the real (three-dimensional) world. Often used when discussing fictional characters or the gap between fiction and reality.

Apparently he's only interested in the 2D world.
二次元と三次元の区別がつかなくなるほどアニメにハマっている。
