平面図(へいめんず)

Composed of 平面(へいめん) (flat surface, plane) and 図(ず) (diagram, drawing). A 平面図(へいめんず) shows a structure or area from a bird's-eye (top-down) perspective, as if the roof has been removed. It is one of the standard types of architectural drawings, alongside 立面図(りつめんず) (elevation) and 断面図(だんめんず) (cross-section).

Usage

Frequently seen in real-estate listings, house-plan magazines, and building-construction documents. Also used in geometry classes when depicting flat figures.
