1.
Japanese-English dictionary
A dictionary that provides English translations and explanations for Japanese words. The counterpart to an English-Japanese dictionary (英和辞典).
Composed of 和 (Japanese), 英 (English), and 辞典 (dictionary). The 和 here is the same prefix seen in 和食 (Japanese food) and 和風 (Japanese style). In the Japanese naming convention for bilingual dictionaries, the source language comes first: 和英 means Japanese-to-English, while 英和 means English-to-Japanese.
